In-person appointments in Newtown, PA

Do you accept insurance?

McKernan Therapy and Consultation is currently in the process of exploring several insurance companies. We will update this list as we add companies. The following therapists are in network for:
While we always encourage clients to practice direct communication with their insurance provider, we are here to help you understand your in network and out of network coverage for mental health services.

What does in-network or out-of-network mean?

“In-network” means your therapist is contracted with your insurance company, and your sessions are billed directly to your insurance. You are typically responsible for a copay or coinsurance as determined by your insurance plan. “Out-of-network” means your therapist is not contracted with your insurance company. In this case, clients pay for sessions upfront and are provided with a document called a “superbill,” which they can submit to their insurance company. Depending on your plan and whether you’ve met your deductible, your insurance may reimburse you for a portion of the session cost.

What are your session rates? How will I be billed?

At MTC, we can provide you with a superbill to submit to your insurance company for potential reimbursement. The reimbursement amount will depend on your specific insurance plan and whether you have met your deductible. We’re here to support you and help you navigate this process.
For your convenience, we keep a credit card on file and will charge it at the end of each session.

  • Build stronger, healthier relationships.
  • Navigate and address challenges in difficult relationships.
  • Practice asserting yourself with confidence.
  • Develop coping strategies to manage challenging emotions.
  • Strengthen problem-solving skills to face life’s complexities.

Therapy offers a supportive space for growth, helping you create meaningful change and live a more fulfilled and authentic life.

What can I expect at my first session?

Your first therapy session is an opportunity to get to know your therapist and begin building a foundation for your therapeutic journey. During the session, you will review the paperwork that was sent to you beforehand. Together, you’ll discuss what brought you to therapy, your mental health and family history, your strengths, concerns, and the goals you’d like to achieve through therapy. This is also a time for you to ask any questions you may have about the process and to assess whether working with your therapist feels like a good fit for you. It’s the first step toward creating a safe, collaborative, and supportive space for your growth and healing.

How often should I schedule a therapy session?

To gain the most meaningful benefits from therapy, consistency is key. Regular sessions provide the foundation for progress and growth. For this reason, we strongly recommend committing to weekly sessions to establish momentum and create lasting change.

What is your cancellation policy?

We require at least 24 hours’ notice for any canceled appointments. If you cancel with less than 24 hours’ notice or fail to attend your session (no-show), you may be charged the full session fee. Please note that insurance does not cover fees for late cancellations or missed appointments. We encourage you to notify your therapist as soon as possible if you need to cancel or reschedule to avoid these charges and maintain consistency in your care.

Do you offer virtual or in-person therapy?

Yes, we offer both in-person and virtual therapy sessions to meet your individual needs. Our therapists are trained to provide high-quality, traditional talk therapy in whichever format works best for you. Virtual therapy can be an excellent option for clients who value flexibility and accessibility, while in-person sessions may be more beneficial for certain individuals, especially children, who thrive with face-to-face interaction. We utilize a variety of traditional therapeutic approaches and techniques, adapting them to meet your specific goals and needs. Whether through virtual or in-person sessions, our tailored interventions are designed to support you on your therapeutic journey.

What is a sliding scale, and do you offer one?

A sliding scale is a flexible fee structure designed to make therapy more accessible for private-paying clients. It can be particularly helpful for individuals who choose not to use insurance or those without health insurance. In our commitment to ethical standards and social equity, we offer a sliding scale based on income and the number of dependents. If you would like more information about our sliding scale and how it works, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
