Autism Spectrum Disorder

Individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) often struggle with social interactions and communication. They may find it difficult to connect with peers, adults, and others. Repetitive behaviors and limited interests can also make it hard for them to reciprocate interactions. People with ASD tend to think, learn, move, and focus in different ways, which can create challenges with routines and structure.

For children and adolescents with ASD, navigating social situations can be particularly challenging, especially in school. These individuals may not easily understand social cues or know how to engage in reciprocal conversations. They might also have difficulty advocating for themselves if they feel bullied or wronged. ASD can lead to lower self-esteem and a sense of being different or less than their peers.
Our goal is to help individuals with ASD not only thrive despite their differences but also because of them. We aim to empower them to leverage their unique strengths and talents to navigate the world around them. We focus on increasing social skills, boosting self-esteem, and embracing their differences. Currently, we use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) techniques to challenge negative thoughts. We also incorporate strength-based techniques and talk therapy. In addition, I use role-playing exercises to help children and adolescents practice skills like asking questions, responding appropriately, advocating for themselves, and identifying their strengths.

These individuals often face challenges such as hyperactivity (e.g., attention difficulties, lack of focus, school problems), impulsivity, oppositional defiance, and anxiety (e.g., social anxiety, generalized anxiety). I also assist with adjustment issues, including coping with divorce or changes in school or family dynamics. In addition, I have experience working with clients on the Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) spectrum. My focus has included helping them build social skills, such as understanding social boundaries, showing empathy, and engaging in perspective-taking. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), strength-based techniques, and solution-focused approaches. These methods aim to challenge negative thoughts and help clients focus on their strengths and practical solutions.
